Where's Lois Lane When We Need Her?

I've been saying this for some time now, but Molly Ivins' column about suicidal newspaper execs pulls it all together very nicely. (thanks for the link JB)

It floors me to hear people talk about how newspapers are such big money losers. They are equally floored to find out that the problem isn't in making a profit - the problem is they don't make enough profit. Our society has somehow relegated newspapers to the same industry standard as cars, Big Macs or Chia pets. Newspapers are the most unique product in the world -- and right now the most vulnerable.

Been Gone Too Long

Where did March go?
Better yet, where have I gone?
If you find me, please send immediately to a warm location, preferably with a beach and a cold Sam Adams.

File this one under...

"crock of shit" - Ariana Huffington didn't know blog posts shouldn't be pieced together from previous interviews? Give me a break. So she got caught by the Clooney post. One question for Huffington: how many other posts were written this way?

Who Said "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead?"

I'm wondering lately if I could be suffering from "outrage fatigue" -- then I read that the Senate has made a deal with the White House and plans to give it permission to spy on Americans for 45 days without oversight. A month and half for them to fuck with any American they choose -- I'm so sure all those surveilled will be associated with terrorists in some way. Outrage fatigue? -- perish the thought.

With Easter Just Around the Corner

Not much more to add to a headline like this: Man Arrested for Alleged Acts With Lamb. One of the 10 commandments covers this pretty clearly -- oh wait a minute, that's thou shall not covet thy neighbor's ass (as in donkey...or is it mule?) -- nothing about a lamb come to think of it.

We Get the Government We Deserve

Can someone tell me what it takes to actually vote an incumbent out? I realize Tom DeLay may be good for that district -- and of course in this country one is innocent until proven guilty (except those suspected of terrorism or disloyalty to Bush II) -- but good gawd, is this really and truly the best representation this district - or any other for that matter -- expects? It's actually better to send the indicted guy to Congress? Is it me?

Been Away Too Long

Was in Los Angeles last week. Attending the ACP college newspaper convention with a great group of people I work with at St. John's. Tried to take a break - worked for blogging, didn't work so well at work. Oh well.
